Phillies News
Zack Wheeler erupted on the mound against the Cincinnati Reds, striking out a career-high-tying 14 batters and reminding everyone of his All-Star snub with a dominant performance in a 4-1 victory. While Wheeler took personal offense to being left off the All-Star roster, it was a team effort that shined as the Phillies' pitching staff racked up a season-high 18 strikeouts. Jesús Luzardo, meanwhile, was added to the All-Star team, joining Cristopher Sánchez and Jhoan Duran as representatives, which puts Wheeler's omission into sharper focus. Even amid some coaching chaos, two Phillies coaches were ejected over a baserunning confusion, the team secured a much-needed win to improve to 51-41. If this is the spark they needed, let's hope they ride the momentum into the next game.
